Audubon sighting
A reader of this blog wrote the following:
The people who pay the bills, NH Audubon members and donors, finally have a forum for their opinions.
Here's the link.

As a consequence of enjoying the benefits of nonprofit status, organizations such as the Audubon Society (and its trustees) must accept that they operate, to a large degree, in the public trust.
For this reason, their financial records and other information are open to public scrutiny, by law.
In my experience, nonprofit organizations get into trouble not so much when they make unpopular decisions, but when they make those decisions as though they are operating in a vacuum, shielded from public view and input.
I imagine Audubon's staffing decisions would have been accepted -- though not necessarily changed -- through a more open, and transparent, process.

It's interesting, this blog no longer exists. One wonders why.
Our town (Danville) is negotiating a conservation easement on our 476-acre town forest with New Hampshire Audubon. NHA was chosen largely because they were thought to have superior resources compared to the two local agencies that all of our neighbor towns have used for similar projects.
